New Delhi: In the recently announced Budget for 2021, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced a fund for power distribution sector of ₹3,05,984 crores for 5 years. This fund will assist DISCOMs for infrastructure creation which includes pre-paid smart metering and feeder separation along with upgradation of other systems.
Feeder separation scheme is not new for DISCOMs and few states like Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, etc have implemented this scheme for agriculture connections.
In the feeder separation scheme, different feeders are erected dedicatedly for different types of consumers – mainly for agriculture, express or high revenue billing consumers. However, its implementation is still limited due to wider geography.
Feeder separation will help in the reduction of supply downtime for high billing consumers. …
