TVA developing its first battery storage project
The Tennessee Valley Authority has announced plans to build and operated its first grid-scale battery storage system in Tennessee, Kallanish Energy reports.
The facility will be located in an industrial complex in Venore, Tennessee, about 35 miles southwest of Knoxville, it said in last week’s announcement.
The project, known as the Venore Battery Energy Storage System, will use lithium-ion batteries to store 40 megawatts-hours of energy.
That is enough electricity to power 10,000 homes for three hours.
The project is expected to be operational in 2022.
It will also boost the quality of electric power available to local industries.
