Powering up the new $500 million Birdsboro Power Plant
BIRDSBORO, PA —
Jim Sellfinger was steaming when construction crews began digging earlier this summer to upgrade pipes to deliver water to the Birdsboro Power Plant.
The $500 million gas-fired electric plant, under construction on the 30-acre former Armorcast steel foundry, requires water and gas lines to operate. The plant is set to open in summer 2019.
“Everyone was inconvenienced so they could get water to the plant,” 55-year-old Sellfinger said, echoing the sentiments of other residents in the 500 block of West First Street.
The water main construction involved tearing up streets and detouring traffic in Birdsboro.
