Power grid operator approves transmission project in Freeport
The Electric Reliability Council of Texas, the overseer of the state’s electric grid, has approved expansion of a transmission line in Freeport, an industrial area with booming power demands and large chemical plants.
By 2019, Freeport’s power demand is expected to be 92 percent higher than it was in 2016, according to ERCOT. The $246.7 million project will include a new 48 mile transmission line and upgrades to shorter line in the area, according to ERCOT.
