Energy companies prepared for upcoming heat wave
SAN ANTONIO- The triple digit temperatures forecast this weekend will be a strain on San Antonio’s power grid as our air conditioners try to keep us cool.
On Friday, we reached a new July high for the amount of energy used at one time.
“We just set a record, exceeding 69,000 megawatts and that compares to our all-time record of 71,110 megawatts in August of last year,” said Leslie Sopko with the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT).
Sopko says things are looking positive for the weekend. ERCOT isn’t anticipating any issues and is expected to meet this weekend’s demand.
“That, of course, can change, but right now it does appear ERCOT has sufficient generation to meet the expected load,” said Sopko.
John Moreno with CPS Energy says he expects there to be no issues for CPS Energy as well.
