Outages leave 5,000 NV Energy customers powerless
High winds caused multiple outages throughout Northern Nevada, leaving about 5,396 customers without power as of late Friday morning, according to NV Energy.
Most of the outages are concentrated in Reno, Carson City and parts of Washoe Valley area. The biggest outages are located in areas with zip codes 89519 and 89509, said NV Energy representative Stephanie McCaffrey. Both areas included about 1,900 customers who don’t have power, she said.
Sixty-three outages make up the total number of customers without power. Of that 63, about 56 outages are in Washoe County, McCaffrey said. Several other outages were sprawled through the Reno-Sparks area and Carson City.
About 650 customers, who reside in the area with zip code 89704, are also without power, McCaffrey said. Some of the outages were caused from high winds and some of the power was shut off near the fire areas over safety concerns, she said.
“We’ve got all hands on deck this weekend,” McCaffrey said Friday. “We’re making sure we have extra people on hand because we have so many outages, most of these are wind-releated and now the fire is adding to them.”
NV Energy has crews working non-stop to restore power “as quickly and safely as possible.” Check the NV Energy website to see estimated times for power restoration.
“Please consider any downed power lines as live and dangerous and stay a safe distance from them,” NV Energy officials said on the agency’s website.
