Southwest Power Pool sets new peakload record
Southwest Power Pool set a new peakload record on Thursday, reaching 50,622 MW at 4:47 pm CDT (2147 GMT), surpassing the previous record of 50,083 MW at 4:35 pm on July 20.
The new record includes the expansion of the Integrated System, which joined SPP last year, SPP Manager of Government Affairs and Public Relations Dustin Smith said in an email, adding that without the IS, SPP would be below but approaching its all-time record from 2011.
Total generation surpassed 1,006 GWh on Thursday, up from 980 GWh on Wednesday, according to data from Bentek Energy, a unit of S&P Global Platts.
Oklahoma City recorded a high of 98 degrees on Thursday, 3 degrees above normal. SPP South Hub on-peak day-ahead LMP prices averaged $35.58/MWh on Wednesday. In the real-time market, SPP South Hub prices jumped to $52.13/MWh in the 15-minute interval ended 5:25 pm Thursday.
