Indian Point’s Unit 2 nuclear power reactor back online
BUCHANAN – Indian Point’s Unit 2 nuclear power reactor went back online Thursday afternoon after shutting down automatically on Wednesday morning, according to its owner, Entergy.
The shutdown occurred while technicians were testing electrical systems, Entergy says. There was no release of radioactivity and no effect on public or worker safety or health, the company says.
The shutdown comes after the same reactor was shut down in March for three months after the Nuclear Regulatory Commission discovered damaged or cracked bolts during an inspection. Entergy said the leak came from a pipe in a “non-radioactive system,” and there was no threat to safety.
