NEW YORK LOCATIONAL-BASED MARGINAL PRICES SET RECORD LOW IN DECEMBER

Locational-based marginal prices in New York continue to set records, with December’s price the lowest for any month since the New York Independent System Operator began managing the grid’s operation, Rana Mukerji, senior vice president of market structures, said Wednesday.

The LBMP for December was $20.90/MWh, lower than $24.80/MWh for November, the previous low for any month during NYISO’s operation. The LBMP for December 2014 was $38.08/MWh.

The average LBMP for 2015 was $44.09/MWh, a 36% decrease from $69.31/MWh in 2014.

The highest peak demand in December was 21,254 MW on December 28. The all-time winter capability period peakload of 25,738 MW occurred January 7, 2014, NYISO said.
