South Field Energy to build 1,100-megawatt power plant in Columbiana County
Boston-based Advanced Power Services said its South Field Energy subsidiary will build a 1,100-megawatt power plant in Columbiana County.
The facility, which is to be fueled by natural gas, represents a “$1.1 billion capital investment that will generate an average peak of 550 construction jobs for up to three years,” the company said in its announcement on Thursday, Oct. 8. It did not set a date for the plant’s completion beyond the reference to a three-year construction period that would follow environmental studies and permitting.
The site will employ about 25 people once it is up and running near Wellsville, where the plant itself will occupy about 20 acres on a 150-acre property.
The project is Advanced Power’s second major power plant development to be announced for Ohio. It’s currently building a 700-megawatt plant in Carroll County, which is set to begin operation in 2017. The two projects combined represent more than $2 billion in investments, the company said.
