NYISO Continues Preparations for Potential Storm Impacts
RENSSELAER, NY (10/01/2015)(readMedia)– The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) continues to track Hurricane Joaquin and has begun preparations for potential storm impacts.
While there is still uncertainty as to the exact timing, trajectory, and intensity of the storm, weather services are projecting that conditions early next week for the New York City, Long Island, New Jersey and New England areas may include heavy rain, high winds, and coastal tidal surges.
The NYISO has been coordinating storm preparation plans with New York’s transmission-owning electric utilities and power authorities, power generation companies, neighboring grid operators, state government, and the region’s reliability coordinator – the Northeast Power Coordinating Council. The NYISO is working with New York’s transmission owners and generators on rescheduling any relevant maintenance work to ensure these facilities are available.
The NYISO will continue to monitor forecasted weather conditions and will be prepared to execute additional reliability or other operating procedures as needed.
