Braidwood nuclear power station completes refueling outage
Operators returned Braidwood Generating Station Unit 2 to full power today, marking the end of the unit’s scheduled refueling outage that began Oct. 5.
“Our refueling outages are critical to maintaining long-term reliability,” said Site Vice President Mark Kanavos. “The work completed during this outage ensures that we will continue to provide safe, reliable and clean electricity whenever it is needed.”
During the outage, workers completed more than 9,000 safety inspections, equipment tests and improvements for the unit. Replacing and updating equipment on an ongoing basis ensures the plant uses the most up-to-date technology. Operators also replaced about one-third of the reactor’s fuel.
Braidwood Station Unit 1 continued to operate at full power during the Unit 2 outage.
