Texans Urged to Conserve Energy as we Hit Hottest Days of Year
AUSTIN, Texas — We’ve hit the hottest days of the year and while the instinct is to crank up the air conditioning and get that pool pump going, that puts a strain on the state’s power grid.
That’s why the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, or ERCOT, wants you to conserve energy between 3 and 7 p.m.
The weekday peak time is 5 p.m. and last Monday power demand was more than 65,000 megawatts– That’s about a thousand megawatts higher than last year.
Thinking about energy is important, as the temperatures and the population of Central Texas continue to climb.
