Nuclear: DOE’s investment in a clean energy future
The Department of Energy (DOE) is committed to nuclear innovation, and making a big investment to prove it.
DOE has released a funding opportunity announcement (FOA) for research, development, and demonstration of advanced reactor concepts. DOE said the move is one of their first steps to increasing their investment in nuclear advanced reactor technologies, which they said have the potential to enhance operational performance, safety, security, economics, and proliferation resistance.
“We have been encouraged by recent interest in advanced reactor technology,” said Acting Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Energy John Kotekin a statement. “We believe this funding opportunity will foster scientific innovation to advance the goals of the Department in developing clean energy technologies.”
