Comverge Drives Rule Change Enabling Residential Demand Response Resources to Participate in PJM Synchronized Reserve Market
NORCROSS, Ga., Aug. 3, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Comverge, Inc., the leading provider of demand management solutions for electric utilities, commends the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and the PJM Interconnection for an important tariff change that became effective today that allows residential demand response resources to participate in the Synchronized Reserve Market. Comverge provided data to PJM to help facilitate this rule change by demonstrating through a statistical sample of residential customers enrolled in a Comverge direct load control demand response program that these resources could meet the 10-minute response time requirement for this market and the market would be assured of having a very accurate accounting of the resources that were delivered. Comverge also supported the tariff changes through the regulatory process at FERC (ER15-1849).
The filing was noticed on June 4, 2015 and goes into effect August 3, offering utilities and other residential electricity service providers in the PJM territory a new potential revenue stream from their residential demand response programs. All demand response resources, including residential, may offer into the PJM Synchronized Reserve Market the day before the resource is available and are compensated if the offer is accepted. PJM then has the ability to call upon these resources to help to quickly repair imbalances in supply and demand by responding within 10 minutes.
