San Diego Gas and Electric urges CPUC to consider rate structure changes
San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E), along with many other California utilities, are at the forefront of renewable energy generation — and SDG&E is asking the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to trust them when it comes to utility rates.
Jeff Martin, chief executive officer of San Diego Gas & Electric, wrote an open letter to the CPUC explaining their efforts and asking the commission to look at the way rates are determined.
“The State of California continues to build on its leadership position in addressing the challenges of climate change,” Martin wrote in the letter. “This year, the California Public Utilities Commission is scheduled to issue several decisions that can potentially expand the role that electric utilities, in particular, can play in advancing that important agenda. Of particular note, the Commission is on the verge of an immensely important decision that will transform the way our cost of serving residential customers is collected.”
