Westar to expand wind energy capacity
Westar Energy Inc. is expanding its capacity by purchasing energy from a 200-megawatt wind farm that will be constructed in Pratt County.
NextEra Energy Resources will construct the wind farm. The wind farm is expected to begin serving customers by late 2016.
The additional wind energy capacity will help Westar increase its renewable energy commitment to nearly 1,300 megawatts, which is the equivalent to the power consumption of about half of the half the homes the utility serves.
