Duke Energy, Austin Energy begin operation of 200 MW Texas wind farm
Duke Energy is increasing their renewable portfolio with a new wind project in Starr County, Texas. The utility partnered with Austin Energy on the 200 megawatt (MW) wind farm.
“The Los Vientos III Windpower Project achieving commercial operation represents a significant milestone for Duke Energy Renewables, as we now have more than 2,000 megawatts of renewable energy in production,” said Greg Wolf, president of Duke Energy Renewables, in a statement. “And, as the third project we’ve completed for Austin Energy, it also signifies a productive and successful partnership as we continue to help this progressive customer grow its renewable portfolio.”
Austin Energy, a municipal electric utility owned and operated by the city of Austin, will be purchasing the power from the 200 MW wind farm farm, as well as renewable energy credits, in a 25-year agreement. According to Duke Energy, it brings the total output purchased from them to more than 500 MW.
