Reforms, infrastructure aided better power, gas market performance this winter: US FERC
Regulatory reforms, improved infrastructure and other efforts have contributed to generally lower power and natural gas prices in the US this winter, federal regulators said Thursday, a stark comparison to the price spikes and operational challenges seen last winter.
“Across the RTOs and ISOs, no significant outages or major operational issues were reported and the bulk electrical system performed well despite changes to the resource supply mix,” R. Omar Cabrales of the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s Office of Enforcement said. Speaking at FERC’s monthly meeting Thursday, Cabrales noted that such an outcome came despite challenging conditions during the most recent winter.
