Annual Transmission Synchrophasor Revenue is Expected to Grow from $8.5 Billion in 2014 to $16.7 Billion in 2023, According to Navigant Research
A recent report from Navigant Research analyzes the global market for the eight underlying technologies that are the primary components of synchrophasors/wide area situational awareness (SWASA) solutions, including global market forecasts for revenue and installations through 2023.
Typically, transmission systems are monitored using supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems that collect status data at 4- to 5-second intervals. However, many disturbances can only be seen using sub-second, high-frequency interval data on voltage, current, phase angles, and other system characteristics. Today, wide area situational awareness systems, particularly synchrophasors, are being used to collect and transmit data to identify high-speed disturbances before outages occur.
